Jalen Rashon Suggs was a 2021 NBA Draft by the Orlando Magic.  Suggs dropping to the fifth overall selection was surprising, as on the night of the draft, many analysts assumed Suggs would be selected by the Toronto Raptors, who owned the fourth pick, as a replacement for the departing Kyle Lowry.

His second cousin is NFL linebacker Terrell Suggs.  During the summer of 2023, he participated in the NBA’s Basketball Without Borders in Johannesburg, South Africa.  Was the first athlete in Minnesota history to be named the state’s Mr. Basketball and Mr. Football in the same year…Was a four-star dual-threat quarterback who had more than a dozen college football offers.  Also played defensive back, intercepting nine passes, including two touchdowns…Chosen to the 2024 USA Men’s Select Team…Won three gold medals with USA Basketball at the 2019 FIBA U19  World Cup, 2018 FIBA U17 World Cup and 2017 FIBA Americas U16 Championship

In the Final Four of the 2021 NCAA tournament, Suggs banked a 40-foot (12 m), 3-point, game-winning buzzer beater to defeat No. 11 seed UCLA 93–90 in overtime, advancing Gonzaga to the Championship game that they ultimately lost (their only loss for the season).  He scored  22 points in the championship game with support from fellow-NBA-players Corey Kispert, Andrew Nembhard, and Julian Strawther.

Suggs was named to the 2023-24 NBA All-Defensive Second Team (becoming the third player in franchise history to receive the honors), leading to him signing a 5-year, $150.5 million contract extension in October 2024.
